East Devon County Council to debate Cut Tourism VAT support

East Devon County Council will debate a motion calling for it to support Cut Tourism VAT. The Council meeting starts at 6.30pm on Wednesday 9 April and will be held at Knowle. Members of the public will be able to speak on matters related to the agenda at the beginning of the meeting.

Cut Tourism VAT is calling on businesses in the area to ask their local Councillors to support the motion and speak at the meeting. If you need assistance or advice on how to brief your Councillors please contact

Councillor Claire Wright has proposed the motion which says:

“This council recognises the significant contribution that the local tourism industry makes to the East Devon economy.

“It also recognises how local tourism businesses are eager to encourage people to holiday here.

“This council therefore resolves to write to its two MPs to urge them to actively lobby for a cut in tourism VAT, with the aim of creating more jobs and attracting more visitors to the area, bringing a welcome boost to the East Devon economy.”

On her website Councillor Wright said: “East Devon’s tourist industry is our lifeblood – and as councillors, we should be actively seeking ways to support it.”
