Cut Tourism VAT welcomes Northern Ireland Hotels report

The Cut Tourism VAT welcomed the Tourism 2020 report by the Northern Ireland Hotels Federation which calls for Tourism VAT to be reduced to 5%.

Graham Wason, Chairman of Cut Tourism VAT said:

“This report by the Northern Ireland Hotels Federation is to be strongly welcomed as another significant contribution to the case for reducing Tourism VAT.

“The fact that Northern Ireland borders a country with a Tourism VAT rate less than half the UK rate makes it a particular challenge for businesses to compete. Germany reduced its rate of VAT on hotels from 19% to 7% because southern states were previously uncompetitive with neighbouring Austria and Switzerland where tourism VAT rates were much lower.”

“Ahead of the 2015 General Election, the Campaign is focused on securing further political support for this measure – one that will increase tax revenue, create jobs and make a domestic holiday a more attractive option for UK citizens and international visitors alike.”
