Campaign criticises tourism demotion in Cabinet reshuffle

Graham Wason, Chairman of the Cut Tourism VAT today responded to the Cabinet reshuffle which saw a change of ministers at the Department for Culture Media and Sport:

“It is disappointing that the Cabinet reshuffle has demoted the tourism portfolio within Government.

“It appears that the brief has been added as an afterthought to the duties of the new Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport and Equalities. It is remarkable that the Government feels that it can treat the sector, which is the country’s third largest employer, with such little attention.”

“I will be engaging with the new Minister in the near future to brief her on the strong case for a reduction in tourism VAT. This will be in addition to the broader engagement we are carrying out with all political parties on the issue.”
